Geophysics for Archaeology

ScanTec have the most comprehensive range of equipment available for archaeological surveys in New Zealand. Typically a number of geophysical techniques are employed at an invesitgation site, as correlation of anomalies between different techniques is very important. We have experience in;

Sample output from GSM-19WG magnetic gradiometer

Sample output from GSM-19

Sample output from 3D GPR Survey, showing plan view of GPR grid. Numerous anomalies can be clearly seen which relate to historic draininage lines, foundations, paths and pits

ScanTec have performed GPR surveys to assist structural engineers on a number of historic buildings in NZ and Australia. High resolution (1.5GHz) GPR scanning was carried out during restoration of St Patricks Cathedral, Auckland, to investigate the original construction of the arches. As a result of the GPR survey, strengthening of the arches was carried out.
